Do you want to learn more about peace education?

A new short course is available on OpenLearn called Principles and Practices of Peace Education. Developed by the Open University and Quakers in Britain, this free course explores how children and young people might be empowered to build peace with themselves, their communities, and the wider world.

The course (about 12hrs of self-directed study) is relevant for educational practitioners and school communities but will also be useful for anyone working with children and young people in informal and community settings. Participants can work through the course at their own pace and gain a certificate of participation at the end.

Hear what Prof. Hilary Cremin thinks about peace education

There will be an online public talk to mark the launch of the course as part of the OU’s Distinguished Speaker Series. Professor Hilary Cremin, Head of the Faculty of Education at Cambridge University, will offer insights on how peace educators seek a relational approach at every level from the intrapersonal to the global and ecological. The talk will take place online on February 5th 2025, 1-2pm and you are warmly invited to attend. Please register here on Eventbrite.

Free peace education workshop for educators!

The following week on 12th February 2025, 4:30-6pm Quakers in Britain will also offer a workshop for practitioners and educators, further information and registration is available here.

A different way to train peer mediators

Would you like to train peer mediators in your school? Next term we are planning things a bit differently - we will be running our popular eight week Peacebuilders course culminating in two days of peer mediation training for those who would like to become mediators.

Do you work with 17 year olds?

Our Peaceful Leadership course helps Year 12 students develop the key life skills of peacebuilding, including: emotional literacy, exploring conflict and violence, creative
conflict resolution, critical thinking, cooperation and group work and modelling ‘peace as a way of being’ to their peers.

The training is a mix of theory, discussion, sills practice, action planning and small groupwork.
