Get ready for International Day of Peace
21 September 2024

On the 21st of September we mark International Day of Peace. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace.

What will you do to mark this date? Here are some suggestions from Peacemakers:

What is peace?

This free assembly encourages children to think about what peace means and how we
can achieve it.

You could use it as a whole school introduction to peace or as a class assembly followed by an activity exploring what peace means to everyone in the class. Maybe you'll be inspired to make a display about it like the one featured above in Cawston Grange Primary School in Rugby.

Hold a Peace Week

A whole-school Peace Week will help your staff and pupils explore the kind of society you want to live in. You can then develop the attitudes, values and skills needed to create it.

Your Peace Week can be run at any time - why not use it to mark International Day of Peace?

Ready to co-create the Future of SEND and the Restorative Movement?

In collaboration with the UK Restorative Justice Council, our friends at The Restorative Lab are co-delivering with Frances Jessie from Restorative Relationships an innovative event that explores the inter-relationship between restorative practice/justice and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

This will be a Open Space Technology event (check out the link if you're not sure what this is!) to ensure that the perspectives of all participants and fields, whether it's education, youth or adult justice, health, social care or community based, are represented and have a voice.
