Check out some of what we've been up to this term!
Peaceful Leadership
We have now run our Peaceful Leadership course for Year 12 students in two schools in Birmingham. We have been excited by the engagement from the students in issues that affect them. The conversations we have had with them has kept us thinking between sessions. Discussing peace and leadership in our world gives us hope. We're looking forward to seeing how the students will share their learning with the rest of their school in the last week of term. Contact us for more information about how your school can get involved.
Teach Peace Secondary
The Peace Education Network has launched a Teach Peace Secondary pack which is bursting with ideas for activities which are suitable for secondary aged children. There are curriculum links and lessons plans. Our RESTORE resources to support challenges children face sits alongside over 50 other resources like CRESST's 'Curious about conflict' and War Child's 'Child soldiers'. This resource is available to download via the link below and lesson plans are available on the TES. A hard copy of the pack can be ordered from the Quaker Bookshop.
Our annual report for 2023 is now available on our website.
'We are very aware that the majority of our work takes place in primary schools, which is crucial for putting in place the building blocks of learning for peace (as it is for learning in any subject). However, we also want to ensure that young people have a structure and methodology to learn about peace throughout their education and we are exploring ways we can do this.'
We have created some bespoke offerings to several Multi Academy Trusts. Orchard Trust in Stoke on Trent are implementing our Learning for Peace across all their schools. We have trained teachers from four schools and these teachers will cascade the curriculum trust wide. Meanwhile DRBIgnite in Birmingham are implementing Learning for Peace and Peer Mediation via a cascade model throughout their schools. We are also supporting them in developing their restorative culture across the schools. Do you know of a MAT or a cluster of schools on their peace education journey? Why not ask them to get in touch? If your school is part of a MAT and you think this would be of interest, get in touch so we can talk about possibilities.
Young Peace Ambassadors
We have enjoyed our initial workshops with children from four schools who are taking part in our new Young Peace Ambassadors project in collaboration with The Peace Hub. We are looking forward to working with Peace Ambassadors who will be selected from these classes next term to think about how they would like to spread peace in their school and community.
